First, welcome to Epic! Ya goin' to luv it here!
From a tourist point of view, Taos is truely an enchanted area. With very litlle housing available in Taos ski valley itself, you would do better looking in the town of Taos itself, which is about 30 minutes from the ski area (daily bus service). If living in Taos, you're in for the treat of your life! A true artist community, living native american culture, no major real estate developements in condos. You have Santa Fe, approx. 1 hour away. Wonderful restuarants, cafes' and again, artist community.
Skiing is tops in Taos, no snowboarders. More difficult than the norm having no green runs. The ski school makes up for it though. Known as one of the best in the country, the Ernie Blake ski school annually recieves top billing.
One thing I have enjoyed in the Taos area are the international skiers that are attracted here. Lots of Germans, Italians and French skiers which give Taos a very European flare.
For a change of pace, you can run over to Angelfire resort for easier skiing terrain. Red River is just up the road.
