Does that not imply that people who disagree on ski technique should not resolve those issues on a public forum? Or maybe where to hold a gathering or what ski to buy.
I'm sorry but when Cupolos used this forum to slag the Toronto Ski Show and the local retailers nobody complained. I do agree one of those threads was getting out there when people are just plain being called liars. That crosses a line but I for one want to know about problems with equipment/manufacturers/stores/eBay etc. That helps me make an informed choice as a consumer and helps me give good information within the industry.
I have read many comments on dealings with the company over the years and they were mostly (all) positive. Now suddenly there is a spate of problems some of which at least seem legitimate issues that people are having a lot of trouble getting resolved.
That tells me something is up, whether it's just more online volume than they can handle, an influx of summer students who weren't up to the task, a re organizing of the operation, I don't know. Maybe they just need someone effective dedicated to dealing with these issues and responding to people. I do think it's best for everyone, including Cupolos to deal with fixing it. If they aren't responding to clients seeking resolutions then a public forum specific to that business is exactly where it needs to go if for no other reason than to draw the attention of the operators to the severity of the issues. The fix might be as easy as goods on auction come off the retail floor so they aren't sold twice which seems obvious to me and seems the root of some of the problems.
Ignoring the (any) problem won't make it go away. Bringing the problem to a forum like this (after private attempts to address it) is one of the biggest values of this board. It does and hopefully has forced someone to first admit to the issues and secondly fix them.
I have seen threads get much more out of hand than those and not get closed that were of much less benefit to anyone in the first place. I just stopped reading them or read them purely for humour value.
It is of course AC's forum and he can do whatever he wants but I do think the decision and rationale behind closing those threads was unfortunate. It's a fine line between a lively engagement on the topic of skiing and Paula's ski lovely's or whatever it is. I think you have to expect the lively engagement will occasionally spill over into more emotional territory. For the most part just letting it go and spend itself would be my choice. Then I can simply choose not to read it.
