There's a weekly travel column in the Wall Street Journal, this week's said:

Ski resorts in the Rockies say advance bookings are significantly higher this year than last, while hotel reservations at mountains in the East are flat.

The Rockies are booking up quickly, largely on excitement following early snows.

Southwest ski territory looks more promising because of the "pineapple express" of wet weather from the south Pacific that will be moving across the region. ...

New England is forecast to have a snowy winter, with increased lake effects and nor'easter storms ahead. But Sunday River in Maine has 5% fewer hotel rooms sold than it did at this time last year, a phenomenon that's mirrored across the region, ...

For those who can't see it, it's only four paragraphs long, and I think I got the high points in original post.

Not surprising, considering the better pass deals out here, as well as possibility of finding less expensive lodging within a half hour's drive from the mountains. Add to that the great fares that Jet Blue on Jet Blue, it makes sense to ski the west.
