Yeah man, I'm actually going twice, once with the fam. at christmas, and once the last week in march(which I'm a little nervous about)with the buddies.

which lift is this? and where were you when you took this shot?

Hi Marty,

Thanks for the kind words.

This shot was taken from the catwalk/traverse that runs along the top of the Blackcomb glacier looking to the left back towards the Horstman Glacier. (I think I have that right) The lift is the Glacier T-bar. It's a short T-bar that gives you access to the glacier itself.

I hope you get in there. I was there for a week this past March and due to wind and fog I never got to the glacier.

But, I did get to ski Coulior Extreme which was just chalk full of fluffy stuff.

You'll have a blast.

I believe it's the "Showcase T-bar", possibly shot from Pakalolo, or there abouts. :

I have to say, based on both my limited recollection, and looking at the online trail map - none of these explanations seem right to me.

I skied all the upper lifts at Blackcomb 2 years ago, but I never saw anything resembling that view.

Clue me in. What am I missing here? :

I have to agree with carvemeister. if i want to take a picture of showcase Tbar - with the Tbar being on my left - I would have to be standing somewhere between the top of seventh heaven and the top of Couloir Extreme or thereabouts. Everything below - where I am going to be standing is a bowl/Horstman glacier.

where is that in the picture?

...and I'll have to agree with Seany Mac ...in the picture, panning to the right of the peak and the odd rock formation, is the begining of the Blackcomb Glacier, that I'm 100% sure of. I also have a very similar photo, however I can't really remember where I shot it from. I think it's the angle of the shot that's throwing everyone off.

WB is so vast that everytime I go there I see and ski something new. Not seeing something from a particular aspect is a distinct possibility.

PS cool shots of Red..thanks

Thanks for looking!

And you're right. Now, I recall where that is. That's definitely the Showcase T-bar, from the top of Blackcomb Glacier. The glacier would be visible just below the camera if it had been zoomed out a bit.

I only sttod at that spot once, and was so mesmerized by the expanse of the glacier, that I probably never looked back to notice that view.

Skiing down from that lift, I don't even recall being aware that such a nasty cliff was just a hard left turn away! :

Yeah, I think the angle is throwing people for a loop. I have uploaded more pics from that day from different perspectives.

I include a couple from the secret chute/bowl area too. Someone mentioned Pakalolo so I included these even though they aren't of Pakalolo one is from near the entrance and it's a cool shot with Black Tusk on the horizon.

I did get the name of the T-bar wrong though. Showcase is right. I shouldn't have been so lazy and looked it up.

Anyway, enjoy the photos. Man, makes me want to be in Whistler right now. Hell, I'd settle for Whitetail (my local hill) right now.

Cheers,

Sean

It is a great mountain and I'm sure I'll go back someday. It's just too darn inconsistent weather wise. If I could, I'd head to Kicking Horse for the Gathering. Never been to the BC interior.
