EpicSki “Operational Team” Announcement

Thread Starter
I have recently completed putting into place a change in the way EpicSki is run, and wanted to formally announce it and thank the people who are making increasing contributions to the operations of EpicSki.

I am very excited and proud of what EpicSki has become, and have greatly enjoyed the time and energy I have put into the community. As a result of EpicSki's growth and success, however, it has become extremely time consuming for one person to run. With new projects beginning in other parts of my life, it has been getting harder and harder for me to dedicate the time to EpicSki that it requires. In addition, it has become impossible for me to add many of the new things that I would like to build into the EpicSki community.

I want to see the EpicSki website grow and become more useful as an informational tool and more enjoyable as a community with strong social bonds. I also want to see the offline events that have evolved from the online community grow and flourish. The current setup (with my heavy day-to-day involvement) was not a good way to achieve these goals.

Therefore, I am formally bringing in a number of people to run various parts of EpicSki. I want to publicly recognize their roles; here’s the line-up as is currently organized:
  • I will remain as the oversight person and coordinator for the team. I will work to resolve conflicts and ensure that the group is functioning as a whole to best serve EpicSki.
  • Dchan will run the website. As many of you already know, he has actually been doing this for some time now. This announcement simply makes it official and brings him in as a full partner (previously he was an extraordinarily generous volunteer).
  • Nolo will coordinate on-hill events. She will play a lead role in organizing and implementing the EpicSki Academy, and will serve as the coordinator between EpicSki and events organized by others that are associated with the EpicSki community. Third party events will be endorsed based on EpicSki’s evaluation of the quality and professional organization of the event, so rest assured that any event EpicSki associates itself with is among the best in the ski industry. EpicSki’s willingness to connect itself with these events is an endorsement of their quality.
  • “Wear The Fox Hat” will assume the newly created position of EpicSki European Ambassador and oversee marketing and growth of the EpicSki community. He will also work on ways to increase the cohesiveness of the community experience at EpicSki. He has many great ideas of his own on how to do this, and welcomes suggestions from all members of the community. EpicSki also wants to more directly address and serve the global nature of the EpicSki forum members.
  • Snomore will create an EpicSki newsletter. This new periodic publication will be distributed by e-mail (select “receive e-mails from administrator” in your control panel if you want to receive it). Content of the newsletter will include particularly important community announcements, plans and changes to the website, updates on all EpicSki-related events, and a wide range of skiing information covering the topics of most interest to serious skiers. Snomore will also do a number of back-end administrative duties that you will not see but are necessary for a community that has as many diverse activities as EpicSki has and will have in the future.
So there it is, the team at the moment. It may very well expand to more people in the future, but for now we are going to see how this new organizational approach works to make EpicSki better than ever. Of course, if you have any suggestions or concerns, PLEASE let either me or the person in the specific area of focus (as described above) know about them.

The goal is to constantly improve EpicSki, and that will involve every member of the community. As proud as I am about what EpicSki has become so far, I am even more excited about what can grow from this diverse community in the next few years. Thanks for the ongoing support all of you have given to this community!

Bravo, AC! More time to ski for you? YESSSSSSSS!

I know that it's against the organization's "no advertising" principles, but maybe WTFH can enquire about Guinness becoming the official beer of Epicski... available gratis at all officially sanctioned events (ESA, ETU, Gathering, etc.)?
James, I'm WAY ahead of you on that one...

I thought that honor was going to whichever brand Nolo can get to donate to the ESA.

These changes/additions are a tribute to the success of the Epic Ski community and to AC who took on the risk of starting this as a new venture only a few years ago. Many thanks to all of you who have been such major contributors to that success!

C'mon. You know it would be a conflict of interest to represent both EpicSki and Paula's site in that capacity.

Starting in November, as part of our efforts to improve the website and make it more valuable, we will begin sending an EpicSki Newsletter to everyone who is registered on the website and who has indicated in their user profile that they want to receive communications from the website. Like the old ESA Newsletter, the new effort will continue to provide information about instructional programs, but it will focus more generally on the website, other Gatherings and so. I would be very interested in hearing for anyone who wants to contribute to it, or who has ideas about what it should include.

Yesterday we sent out the final edition of the EpicSki Academy newsletter. I hope it was useful and I know it was fun, but it is done, and now for the new thing.

So, now for the administrivia--if you have been receiving the old newsletter at a different email address from the one you registered on the website, and you want to keep receiving the new newsletter, you'll need to update your user profile to provide the correct email. If you don't want to get any newsletter from us, you need to update your user profile to change the communication preference. And, if you're just happily rocking along, you don't need to do anything.

I don't know if anyone would be interested, but I'd love to contribute either an Exercise or Fitness Tip of the Month {or of the quarter, how ever often you would be putting out that newsletter} It would be great if some of the ski pros would do the same.

I really do think we need to get Gonz in on this. What about a Gonz column in the newsletter, some sort of agony aunt & ski advice all in one? We could call it "Gonz's Ski Lurvers". Now the best skis of each season are obviously the ones Gonz buys and rather than Gonz (out of the goodnes of his heart) telling each indivdual what a bad mistake they made buying last years Bandits, he could tell everybody which skis they should buy in the Newsletter.

Just a thought, but it's all good. Go Gonz

You know DB, that's not a bad idea. Both the gonz thing in particular, and the idea of "columnists" in general. Hmmmm.

Who will take the "counterpoint" to Gonzo's "point"?

(Gonzo, you raging idiot.....)

eccchhh... too egomaniacal to be me. I thrive on exposing the idiocy in others, not in lauding my own traits. and NO, it's not an overcompensation/projection/solving my probs by picking on others, either!

You see DB, Gonzo's talent would be wasted on gear columns when he is a much better political commentator. Keep on flamin' them idiot bushites, Gonz.

Bonni,

You are showing your age!

I happen to be proud of my age, dchan. Age is the result of not being dead.

How about Lisamarie does a fitness tip of the month, and we get a sponsor to do a beer tip of the month? Guinness gets tiresome after a while.
Sounds like a plan! And Fox can show us how to drink a glass of beer while performing balance exercises!

Where's that video.....?
this is the problem with becoming someone important, there's always people who have videos of you when you were younger, and they release them to show what you were really like...

Bump.

And thanks for all the thoughts on the newsletter. If anybody has more ideas, or would like to volunteer, let me know (I'm PMing a couple of you after I finish this post).

We'll try to do something along the columnist or guest columnist line, maybe not the first time out, but soon. Gonzo, of course you don't HAVE to write a piece, but you can either come to the party and guide the conversation or stay away and be the topic of conversation. On that note, the world ought to know that, as much as he makes elliptical references to his Jesuit education, Gonzo is also a product of the very same junior high school as my wife. And while they both predate digital video (try Super8), well, there are possibilities . . .
'tis true, FSKey Jr High alum are few

what kind of guest column topics are you thinking of, sno'more?
IMO, a great selection of people. I feel happy that I was able to add my small contibutions before Dchan took over, although it was a tough week. Dchan is a great guy, we have met, but yet to ski together. I need to get out there some winter for us to make some turns.

If you need any help with the equipement area, let me know.
