Passes open or closed?
Drive time would depend on whether you're going with or without snow closing the passes. From San Jose, with the passes closed, you might have to go through S. Lake Tahoe, and over Kingsbury Grade, to get to 395. Fromhttp://www.mammothsecrets.com/travel/gettinghere.htm
"From San Francisco: 390 miles east (winter route) via I-80 to US Highway 50 west to US Highway 395 south to State Route 203. In the summer, the Tioga Pass just east of Yosemite National Park is open, which shortens travel time to 260 miles via I-580 east to State Route 120 east. Travel time is about 8 - 9 hours.
