I have been looking at Atomic SL 9s in a 160.
I am thinking that an SL 11 will be too much ski for me to have fun on.
The "feel" of the SL9 and SL11 is very different, in my experience.
The SL11 is quite damp compared to the SL9. It is somewhat less forgiving. Neither of them are as unforgiving as a real sandwich race-stock ski.
They are both great skis. There are other great options available. If you are concerned that the SL11 may be too much ski, perhaps you should look into the new Rossi 9S Oversize. Its somewhat more forgiving, yet IMHO more damped and quite a bit more versatile than the SL11.
Plenty of other options exist. Fischer (thankfully) took some shape out of the "RC4 WC SC" which basically means the "middle" Fischer slalom ski. Its a tremendously fun ski, and very similar to the SL11 side of things.
If you are doing this because you want a short turn shape in a beefy ski rather than pure racing you have even more options. The Blizzard X-Cross is definitely my ski of choice for this year. I skied a bulletproof slalom course on it last year, in a 163. I doubt I was any slower than I am on my "real" slalom ski. The Volkl 5 star also comes to mind. Its a bit lighter feeling than an SL 11 and not quite as damp, in my experience.
