Unfortunately, smoking is addicting and it is not easy to quit, especially if they have been smoking for a long time. I can tell you that when I was at that very impressionable age where people pick up habits like this, smoking was very much accepted. You were in the "cool" crowd if you smoked. My high school even had a smoking area for the students to use between classes (and it was always crowded).
I am going to admit it, I am a smoker. I have tried to stop several times...it's quite hard. Those who know me though will tell you that I will generally go away from people, step outside (I never smoke in others houses or cars unless they do too) or if outdoors, ask them if they mind. I AM trying to quit, but it isn't easy. Certain things trigger my urge to smoke...drinking, stress, boredom, anxiety... I go the whole day at work w/o one, in fact, most there do not know that I do smoke.
