helmet covers

Thread Starter
I love to ski and my helmet saved me on Drop Off at Killington where I bounced halfway down on my head a complete yard sale.... but I hate the way my helmet looks. I found that wearing a helmet cover brought out the ski bunny in me. Has anyone seen the new line of crazeeHeads helmet covers at crazeeheads.com?

there is no way I could wear one of those (my helmet is hot enought to begin with), but they look like they offer some individuality. Also, a lot of people won't wear a helmet because of how they look, so if these convince more people to wear a helmet, then I'm all for em.

Personally, I'm looking to have my helmet airbrushed with a few stickers on it.

I don't know.. I'm admittedly pretty vain, but this may be taking things a bit too far

OMG! What will they think of next? I can just picture one of those with a Bognar fart bag.

I actually ditched my helmet last Spring cause the conditions were so warm. Loved the feeling of being helmetless again.

Probably will just ski in hats or ear bands from no on unless I'm hiking to ski steep stuff with rocks and such.

Actually don't miss it at all. Ya I know, I was one of the original Bears who pushed the helmet issue, but now feeling a little more relaxed without.

Nothing says GAPER TOURIST like a helmet cover... so if that is ok with ya... GO FOR IT!

The animal covers seem to be popular with young children in the east. I don't know that I've ever seen an adult or even an older kid wearing one

A buddy of mine has a 5 year old grandson who has a shark fin on top of his helmet...It fits the little guys personality perfectly.

At Mammoth, especially on the weekends, I have seen adults with covers on...I'm not sure that the gaper tag covers it...

The cake.... :
Then there was Rainbow days 2003. We saw two guys sking together with matching one piece suits ["Bognar fart bag"] and matching fluffy animal backpacks. We laughed so hard we couldn't take pictures to record the event.

Crazee?

Yes.

On the other hand: my daughter has a pair of cat ears (and a cat tail) that stick on with suction cups, which she likes.

Back on the first hand: she's seven.

You know it. And what's up with those goofy jester hats? Come on, how can you spend money on that? But on the plus side. I can see them better at 50mph. Kinda like the flashing light on a highway cone.

Peace

Maggiesue,

You don't happen to work there (or for them do you)?

I'm sure there's a post on the Powder forum saying 'Look at what the Gapic skiers are talking about now.' with a link to this thread. I wouldn't be surprised if this thread was started by one of them.

I'd like to get one with a propeller, I think that would be hysterical.

Well ... the vote (so far as I can tell is):

NO: 7
Questionable: 1
Tolerant: 1

Not exactly a ringing endorsement of the helmet-cover concept.

I'm kind of embarrassed because I can't afford a helmet and ski in a knit hat. Maybe if I put these over my hat with some crumpled newspaper to fill it out, poeple will think I'm a hardcore, helmet-wearing, extreme dude! Maybe?

telerod15 -

If you can't afford a helmet then spike your hair or get a Mohawk then ski without a hat. That way people think you're not wearing a helmet because of your hair.
If you can't afford a helmet do not ski because you will die.

Seems pretty gay to me.

(Not that there's anything wrong with that)

I want a helmet cover that makes it look like Armstrong's Y2K time trial helmet, the blue Gila monster.

CLASSIC!

Here's another set that I kinda like. http://spikos.com/

Nothing like a 50 something instructor wearing horns. I did a PSIA Level II prep clinic wearing them. Needless to say I got an interesting look from the clinician. NO, I have not worn them to Alpine exams, now my adaptive exams on the other hand.....yup!!!
