Yellowtail Shiraz, 1.5 liters for $9.99. I challenge anyone to find a $25 bottle half the size that's any better.

Wine by the glass is almost always a rip.
XDog1. If I feed my dog filet mignon, he'll eat it just as readilly as chuck . Saying that Yellowtail is a great Shiraz is like saying that Mt. Creek is the same as Whistler/BC. It's OK pizza wine at best. I know a lot of good Shiraz's that are just about the same price. BUT-Only wine snobs judge the quality of wine by the price tag!

PowHog, I called it a Heff for a reason! Say it ten times while drunk... :

Thatsagirl,

Well, I'd prolly have less trouble with that than you would.......but I won't subscribe to that either when being in the right circumstances....

Long Trail Ale to start and then move on to red wine or Johnny Walker Red to wrap things up!

P.S. As a former president of my high school PBR club I see nothing wrong with a PBR apres ski...they were $5.99 a case - could not be beat!

Gee this whole response sounds sorta snobbish.

And if you're feeding your dog filet mignon, you're either rich or retarded. I really don't care which.

If you go back and read carefully, nowhere will you see me refer to Yellowtail as a "great shiraz". I merely inferred that it was a good value, and that for the price of 1.5 liters, you'd be hard pressed to find a 750ml bottle that's of comparable taste for the price.

And the emphasis on price comes from the other thread in the lounge where someone was perturbed about paying $25 for a glass of wine.

Please read posts more carefully before crafting your incredibly witty retorts.

Yellowtail is produced by Casella Wines, an Australian family winery owned by Filippo and Maria Casella. They represent 6 generations of winemakers since 1820. The Australian business was established in 1965 with winery and vineyards located in Yenda, Australia.

Ron, I'd think you'd be singing their praises for being a local business supporting the local community.

"OK pizza wine at best." That means it's good, right? Mmmm, pizza wine!

Hoegaarden hmmm yummy. followed by a few glasses of red and lots of water

A microbrew ... which, exactly, depending on what's on tap and a few other variables (like whether it's toe-numbingly cold or warm). I'll back up the Rogue Dead Guy suggestion as a good all-purpose choice, though.

This thread deserves some sort of prize for cleverest title.

How does someone living in NY support their community by buying Aussie wine? Dog, the example of the dog eating fillet mignon; it's an analogy, I guess you missed it. Also, since you challenged anyone "to find a better bottle of wine 1/2 the size at $25", what did you mean then if you didn't mean that the Yellowtail wasn't good? Are you saying the YT is bad? I'm lost here. There are many 90+ rated bottles of Shiraz at or under $20 which is a very reasonable price. I believe YT is rated at 85 by WS, for the record, it is listed as a best buy at $7, although for the price of $5-$6, I would try the Bulletin Place Shiraz. Even better, not a Shiraz, but USA made, Cline's Red Truck can be had for $8.00 that is a notch up from Pizza wine. I have many "pizza wines" myself. I originally posted because you were rude the peson who originally posted his desire to have an expensive glass of wine, what gives you the right to put him down for that? Is there a rule somewhere that I missed that if you have sophisticated tastes or can afford expensive things don't post here? I have noticed that this seems to be a trend at this site. Why is your choice to post YT better than this person's choice to post? Now that's snobby! You are critizing him merely because it's expensive and that's bad to you for some reason. If you could drink it, you'd turn it down right? Yeah, right!

Yup that means decent grade wine, if you drank wine, you would be familiar with the term. It means decent drinkable wine that you don't mind opening up for crowds or in a pinch. If it wasn't decent then I wouldn't drink it. I realize that probably want me to be insulted but your post shows something else!

Wait, so you don't feed your dog filet mignon? Oh dang, you got me!

More cleverness!

I'm not going to respond line by line because I can't bear to muddle through your punctuationally chaallenged post. I will respond to 2 points.

I wasn't rude to a person who likes $25 glasses of wine. I was commiserating with somone who complained that they got bamboozled into paying that much. That's where that $25 figure we keep bouncing around came from.

And I still never said YT was "great". It's good, and it'll give many other more expensive Shiraz' a run for their money.

Ok wine geek?

Whew! I think it's getting a little hot in here. : I'm gonna go grab a homebrew while you two settle this...now, remember, it's all fun and games till someone gets hurt...

If you like Yellowtail (I don't) give Lindeman's a try - their cheapest shiraz goes for $11 or so for 15L and is heads and shoulders above Yellowtail. If you have the money, Wynns Coonawarra and Peter Lehman make great shiraz.
Oh Xdog, no, you still didn't get it! NY, it figures. I see that you try not to work, That would explain a lot. I'm done with this, I have a business to run. I'm sure you have plenty of free time.
Hey Ron, Not intending any insult, I thought it meant the wine tastes good with pizza! I drank wine but I forgot the part of drinking wine where you find out what "good pizza wine" means. Maybe I drank too much and forgot what i learned!

What else does my post show? I hoped to show humor. It's a reference to Homer Simpson, a character on a popular television show. If you drank beer you would know this. I forgot wine snobs only watch PBS!
PinHed, I was making a joke. In actuality I would probably choose just one of Lorian's choices--a pitcher (or bowl) of pure Bridger Bowl spring water on ice. Too late in the day for a double shot. Sadly, the ol' bod doesn't tolerate alcohol any more, so I leave the debates on potent potables to those with a dog in the fight.

Rio, thanks for the explanation on "pizza wine"!
I understood the term in its literal meaning...
That's another reason why I like this place, I learn the lingo.
Nolo, I don't drink heavily, like you can't take too much alcohool.
One, max two, glass(es) of red wine (Bonarda or Barbera) at dinner (not always).
A medium beer with my pizza (or a "panache'/panach' ", half beer half "7up" or "sprite")
Hefeweizen, either dunkel or Kristal at bbq's (usually just one 0.5 liters glass)
But my favourite drink is water.
As apres ski, usually a hot chocolate or Vov or Bombardino or Gluehwein will be enough, when at home, a cup of tea. But I think that "apres ski" is a different term for me, it means the last drink before the last ski run of the day.
Then it's the pool or a sauna and a light swim (if the hotel has those facilities) otherwise it's shower and a nap till dinner time.
I know, dull, but I need to keep myself rested and fit for the next day.
I other words, "live to ski another day".
Bombardino!!!! Yes YES YES YES YES YES YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

An excellent reason to ski in Italy!
Ehe Lisa, I knew it!
Oh BTW the sentence "last drink before the last ski run of the day" has been un unfortunate choice of words, please don't read it that I spend the day drinking!
