Hands Up...

Hands up who was skiing last night between 7pm and 9pm local time?

Me and the skis really clicked last night. (Thanks MiL for the instruction at the Academy) I had a great time - walked into the snowdome in a T shirt and jeans, changed into my ski gear, and hit the slope for a couple of hours, before going to an Italian restaurant in the complex.

No more (planned) skiing for me for another 17 days
Only 17 days until my next planned excursion on snow

its like 100 degrees in Houston and Houston has enough money to build 5 domed stadiums for their sports teams and not one for skiers !

But not too worry, 78 days 'til expected opening of Loveland ! My official snow-watch starts in 61 ! Wont be long now !

I agree!:

It hasn't been warm here to speak of 70's and low 80's little to no sun, but there isn't any snow either!

You are such a tease.

Who says the Brits don't know what they're doing? About 115 days more for me... :

C'mon,

You're just redoing your garage and hopped with the sticks into the muddy concrete!

Ya know what, bud? I don't like the color of your pants, the snow looks like toothpaste, you're holding the camera at a weird angle, you're in a slight wedge, the color balance is too orange on the right half of the picture and too blue in the left, and it looks like you have only half a basket on your ski pole.

What, me grumpy and jealous that you are having fun skiing in the summer? No way! Yup, I tell you, it sure is real skiing weather around here: the humidity is so high that it is condensing on the outside of our double windows, our yard becomes so overgrown in a week that it looks like the jungle in "King Kong", and we had three inches of rain fall in an hour last night, some of which got into the basement.

Not that I'm interested, of course, but you don't think the owners of your local snowdome would consider relocating it to the Washington, DC area, (ie, like tommorrow) do you?

Let me address each of the issues raised by the republican candidate for South Canada...

I'm not showing you my pants, and I can't remember what coloUr they were that day. You'll have to make do with my black ski TROUSERS

Well, either it's been a long time since you've seen snow, or it's been a long time since you've brushed your teeth - what are you? English, or something?

It's not a camera, it's a cell phone, and the angle was an attempt at showing my skis on snow, at the same time as displaying the EpicSki sticker.

Yeah, my pants were riding up a bit after the Poma lift.

The slope is indoors, and as such is illuminated using reflected electric lights, this affects the coloUr balance, causing the blue hue. As for the orange, I would suspect that is either due to my boots, or the fact that I got a sun tan on holiday recently, and the light was reflecting off my head.

Finally you are right! Yes, I cannot tell a lie, there is only half a basket on that pole. When I ski at indoor slopes, I don't take my own poles, just grab the ones that are there. I didn't notice the broken basket until I got on the lift, and I couldn't be bothered to go back and change it.

...but, rest assured, next week (7th to be exact) when I go back up there, I'll try to rectify all these issues!

Have you updated your personal options to ensure that you have "Enhanced Interface" selected? If not that may be your problem.

Or you need to hit the "Go Advanced" button below the text box, instead of using the "Post Quick Reply" option...

Aren't there any indoor Snowdomes in the USA? - I would have thought that some of the larger cities in States that don't get any snow all year would have had enough people keen to get some snow sliding in, outside of a vacation trip, to make it worthwhile to build one. Incidentally, I just visited my local Snowdome (35 miles from home) last night to get a couple of hours in. This Snowdome (at a place called Tamworth) is part of an indoor sports complex, and they use the waste heat from the Snowdome refrigeration plant to heat the water in the swimming pool. I'm sure you would approve of the thermodynamic principle.
The main trouble with Snowdomes is that because the slopes are so short, even putting in as many turns as possible, from start to finish only takes me 30 seconds. (Now where else have I heard that complaint? )

I don't think there are any over here. I seem to recall some fairly recent discussion of the possibility, but I don't think anything has come of it yet.

With respect to the 30 second issue, even that beats my only alternative: Standing in a walk-in refrigerator with my ski boots on and a fan blowing on my face.
