Sounds real good to me. If I have to drink 3 jagermeisters for breakfast, I'm going to insist on the champagne chaser. I can't drink beer before noon.

Because my skiing schedule has changed quite drastically this year, I think I might actually have to go to this shin-dig. However, I would also not need lift tickets, as my PSIA card will get me a discount. I'd also be looking for some seroiusly cheap lodging or just day tripping it, becasue we're a single income family. This will, however, need to be approved by the budget and leisure committee (a.k.a. the wife).

I haven't been to 7S in something like 15 years, but I'm considering the possibility of working there next season (nned to figure out how long it will take to drive there)

If I needed this to be a last-minute decision, is that do-able? Any of you locals know what kind of lodging can be found within 20 minutes of the mountain on a Saturday night in January for cheap?

Hi JohnH, I'll be looking into lodging options in the coming week or so. I know that 7 Springs has a group rate for their Hotel so I'll get the details on that. I'll look into off mountain lodging too but finding a group deal may be difficult because DC area folks would want to stay in Somerset and Ohio folks would prefer Donegal.

As for lift tickets, last season PSIA discounts were not offered on Saturday, Sunday discount was ofered. I'll check on that too.

John, please PM me with your e-mail address.

It's Official-7 Springs-Jan 8-9

Let's make it official:

The West Mid-Atlantic/ Allegheny Mountains Gathering will be at Seven Springs on Jan 8-9.

I've recieved many PMs and e-mails in favor of both the venue and dates. There has been only one strong vote for Holiday Valley.

With over 1,200 hits on this thread, I'd say there was some interest in this event, at least from a hard core group. I hope to see many Bears there.

Information on lodging, rates and directions will be forthcoming.

Here's an "it's finally gonna snow this weekend" bump.
Hey gang,

There are NO available beds in the hotel for that weekend. Only a few condos are left. Somerset looks like out next best option.
36.8% chance I will come out Sat night to ski Sunday. Anyone have an extra bed to crash on?
Awe No available lodging? I was looking forward to my first trip to 7S. Although I could probably do that as a one day trip. It is not too far from my house.
What is Somerset like?
Somerset is not far from 7springs and has lots of motel rooms. Go past the big ones near the exit, take a left on the main route through town. I stayed at a really cheap place there, sorry I don't remember the name or exactly where it is. If you can't find the cheap dive, they have Hampton Inn, Holiday Inn, Knight's Inn, Ramada, Best Western, Day's Inn, Super 8, etc. Plenty of rooms.

I'll check on some motels at both Somerset to the east and Donegal to the west and get the final word on rooms at the mountain. Taylormatt mentioned something about some private residences that maybe for rent. Life has been a bit hectic lately but I'll get on it this weekend.
Bump. Where are people staying??? I might just commute from Pitt.

You are right about no rooms at the hotel and only 3 or 4 condos left through reservations. I'm checking with the Ramada Inn in Ligonier for group rates. Ligioner is closer to Laurel but it is a real town with a few dining and drinking options along with some local history, a rebuilt French and Indian War fort and a nice town square and small shopping district. There may even be a shuttle service to 7S and LM, we'll have to wait and see on that one though. The Ramada is offering a package for $169 for Friday and Saturday night stay that includes breakfast and lift tickts to 7S, $152 for LM. I'm waiting to hear from them on group derals for lodging only. You can check out their web site here:

http://www.ramadainnligonier.com

I'll get the number for the Laurelwood in Donegal and if somebody can give me a lead on a place in Somerset I'll check that out for group deals also.
Springhill Crazie,

That Ramada Inn package is pretty good. Can we get group discount on lifts too? That could really drop the price if we can get a group discount at the Ramada. If not I will probably book there.

Hi all,

The official date and venue for our Gathering is:

January 8-9, 2005
Seven Springs, PA

I've been able to secure a block of 10 rooms at the Ramada Inn at Ligonier, Pa about 45 minutes drive from 7 Springs and about 15 minutes from Laurel Mountain. The rates are $81.75 (tax include) per night double occupancy, $75.21 (tax included) per night single occupancy. A two nights lodging package with 2 full breakfast is $98.00 per person. To reserve a room call: 724-238-9545 and tell them your with the Epicski Gathering. The rooms and rates will be held until January 1, 2005.

The Ramada Inn at Ligonier also offers packages through their web sight, www.ramadainnligonier.com, that includes two nights lodging, two full breakfasts plus lift tickets. The Seven Springs package skiing is good for Friday night through Sunday day session and cost $169.00 per person The Laurel Mountain package skiing is for Saturday and Sunday day session and cost $152.00 per person. The tickets aren't interchangeable so if you buy this package you're committed to skiing one area.

We maybe able to arrange group discount tickets per day but we would need 20 prepaid buyers for Seven Springs. I'm not sure what arrangements can be made for Laurel as management positions are not fixed at this time. I'm sure a similar deal can be made at Laurel.

More inexpensive lodging can be had at the Laurelwood Motel, Mount Pleasant, Pa about 16 miles west of Seven Springs on Rt. 31 off of the Donegal exit of the PA Turnpike. Rates are $44.52 double occupancy per night. Motel management describes the motel as clean and basic. The phone number is 724-547-4802

Inexpensive lodging in Somerset, PA off of the Somerset exit of the PA turnpike about 16 miles east of Seven Springs can be found at the Knights Inn, Ramada Rd. Rate are from $40.46 double occupancy per night.

I hope this information serves you well. Other links at the bottom of the page will assist you in finding other lodging options and information on the surrounding area.

Where will all of the action be Sat night? Does anyone want to share a place?
Thanks you so much for the info Rob! I really appreciate it. I am checking w/ my bf to see if he wants to come with me! I am really looking forward to the trip. What official date do we need to let you know if we are coming or not? I know this is important for group hotel/lift tickets rates. Thanks for the many options! The rates sound pretty good!

Anyone needing a lift ticket please PM or e-mail me with the amount and days needed. As soon as I get 20 solid committments I'll contact the mountain and we'll proceed from there. More likely I'll have to prepay and distribute tickets the day of the event. Remember, PSIA member will recieve a discount at both Laurel (Saturday and Sunday) and Seven Springs (Sunday only) at the Ski School desk.

The lodging only deal at the Ramada Inn at Ligonier can be reserved by calling and identifying yourself as from the Epicski Gathering. All other motels prices I quoted are right off of their web site or information from the motel, no futher ID required.

7springs is fun but I think a side trip to nearby Laurel mtn on sunday might be fun too if conditions are good. All I know is it has 900 vert and a respectable avg. pitch and I never skied there. The lower part may be steep! 7springs can be challenging (bumps, ice) but no very steep runs. 2 days at 7springs is fine with me also. If I can get there, I will try, car is broken right now, working on that, hope to get to meet you guys and ski with you.

Hey telerod, get that car fixed or bum a ride with some other folks coming from the DC area.

Just so there is no confusion. Seven Springs is the venue for the Gathering. We will meet in the Foggy Goggle lounge which is on the second floor of the slope side (original) lodge. Let's meet between 8-9AM Saturday morning.

Laurel will be considered as a side trip for those interested. If we have good natural coverage, Laurel will not disappoint. If snowmaking is the only coverage, Lower Wildcat will still be available but there will only be about 35 acres covered.

See yunz at Seven Springs.
