At the rate the weather is going, 35% coverage at 7S in January may be excellent, lol (ok, not really laughing).
Awe..yeah it has been realitively warm thus far. I only saw a few flurries on Turkey day...
p.s. Thanks for letting us know the time and meeting place. Is it too late to sign up? I have mentioned it to my bf. I did not get an answer yet. So when is the absolute deadline?

There's no sign up, just show up. If you need lift tickets send me an e-mail or PM. When I have 20 confirmed ticket buyers I'll be in touch with further instructions. If we can't get 20 confirmed then everyone will have to buy their own tickets the day of arrival.

I am 90% going. I need to get some snow time with with some of you (ski)bums.

Snow

This absolutley SUCKS! I cannot believe that we are not skiing yet. Everytime the long range forcast looks promising it all of suden changes to summer like temps. You know what I hate? The newscasters that always tell the weatherman to keep the cold weather away. Like I tell the people I work with, If you do not like the cold.....MOVE SOUTH!!!
You're starting to sound as bitter as I am, lol.
Blowing a ton of snow right now, must be open by next weekend, right?

Anybody bringing a snowboard to this event? Telemark skis? After some of the stories I've read here at Epicski, I'm afraid I might not be welcome with my board. I usually change gear at lunch, it keeps my legs from getting too tired and I enjoy variety. Any closet riders want to mix it up a little bit? I can be the token telemarker and token snowboarder but would like it if some others were freeheeling/snowboarding also.
Blowing a ton of snow, yes...but we have 3 days of rain & warm temps coming to destroy it all. Opening on the 11th looks about as good as an opening this weekend.

Pierre is a freeheeler, I'm sure I can talk Cap into joining us and I invited another freeheeler (our golf course super, Sam you probably know John Neimernen (I know I just slaughtered that name, lol))

Pierre hasn't committed yet (or is that been committed?) but I'm sure if it's crappy and icey he'll be there
post #129 of 253
Wow, that's Jim Kapp, right? He's a really good skier and great guy. Anyone who wants to learn telemark should see him (level III). Seven Springs has good telemark rentals, too!

Think snow! It's not going to rain for 3 days...
It looks like they shut the guns off already, I guess you're right about next weekend.
Yep, Jim Kapp. He may even drag knuckles with you He got his AASI L1 last season.
Sunday is going to warm up a bit too. Keep fingers crossed for next week there.
What is up with warm weather? I want to go to this 7S trip, but I am not sure if I can because of school stuff. I will try! Hope 7S gets some good snow by January.
I may be able to get there - provided I don't break anything in Summit County in two weeks!
You're assuming we'll have snow and be open in 30 days.
Tubing hill looks to have good cover. I'll bring my tube. Any other tubers planning to attend? 7Springs has good tubes for rent and top notch instructors if anybody wants to give it a try.
For some reason, they have been blowing the tubing park harder than anywhere else. Not sure of the reason for this...but I'll ski it if that's all there is <EFG>

That's the old Sunbowl learning area where I cut my teeth on instructing back in '91-92. I've skied it before, I will do it again given the chance

There have only been about 6 folks interested in group rate tickets.

Anyone interested in getting group rates please PM or e-mail me. Remember PSIA rates are not available Saturday.

I guess I had better start thinking of something then. I haven't even gotten a room yet.

SpringHill if the PSIA rates are not available for Saturday perhaps I am interested in a group rate.

I'll check to make sure but I know that PSIA discount was not offered on Saturdays last year. We'll need 20 to get a group rate.
Hey. Sorry I haven't been around for awhile. You can put me down for 2 tickets Springhill I just wanted to go on Saturday though. I will not be able to ski on Sunday.
Thanks so much!

Unfortunately I may become a no-show at this gathering because the ice storm did a number on my place. My telephone and cable wires went through a pine tree and a birch tree on the way from the pole to my house. The (still) ice incrusted branches broke and /or bent over tearing the anchor brackets out of the side of my house and now the wires are about seven feet off the ground streched tight across my driveway blocking my 12 foot high RV from getting out.

I am told that no repairs could be made until my lower roof is ice free since the bracket needs to go on the side of the higher part of my split level house. Depending on a number of things I will have to play it by ear if I'm able to attend...

Sorry to bore you wih my particulars....

Ott

I'm sorry to hear about your bad luck with the ice damage and hope for a quick repair. I was hoping to get the chance to meet and ski with you and your wife. Good luck, and be careful out there.
Ott:

Good luck on the repairs! That wind after the ice build-up sure did a number on the trees around my house ...but fortunately all missed my house.

If the weather forecast holds true, your roof should be clear very soon...unfortunately, if it holds true the ski areas aren't going to fare well
post #148 of 253
Chris, if it is at all possible for this old man to dare a slippery roof I will try to jury rig something to hoist those lines enough to get outwith my RV. I don't have the resorces to stay in a motel and eat all our meals out. At this time my birch tree is doubled over hanging on those lines, I hope it straightens up enough once the ice melts that has covered it since Wednesday night, pretty as a picture but oh so destructive...

Boston Mills had great snow today, also a few thousand kids...

Don't do it, Ott! Do your sliding on the slopes ...but not the slope of your roof. It's not worth it!!!! You know how it works around here (far better than I, I'm sure) the snow will be gone by the weekend ...just WAIT!!!

I hope we both make it to 7S, and I hope there is snow there!!!! If not, then I'll force myself out to BM once again ...after ESA (and after all those kids go back to school).

Best regards,

Chris

PS You're right about the picture. The woods around our house lit up incredibly in the sun the other day, and the new dusting overnight gave it a whole new texture. I think Lori took some pictures and I hope they capture a bit of it!

Ott, sorry for your misfortune. As much as I like to meet and ski with you, heed Chris' advice and wait. We can always organize a second gathering later in the season when natural coverage is far better.
