By the way, great packed powder at Okemo today, and they're about three quarters open ( I won't mention number of trails, since that is fairly pointless).
The big news is that SOME of the trails on the new Jackson Gore area were open for the first time today, and it was a great day to try them out. Being my first day of the season, I tended to go a bit easier than I normally would. (OK...a lot easier)
I was really impressed with something called Limelight (Upper is a brief black, lower is a much longer blue). It is unlike anything else at Okemo, and more like some of the trails at MRG or Jay. It is narrower, winding, and steeper than the six lane highways over on the main area. The only other new trail I tried there was the one under the new quad (the most eerily quiet chair lift I have ever been on). I think it's a black, which is a bit of a stretch ("Wait till we tell Grandma you skied a black diamond!")
I don't know if they'll open more of the new trails for the weekend, but Limelight was a lot of fun. The access to the new trails is right at the top of Coleman Brook trail, near the top of the Solitude lift. (or off Mountain Road)
