Driving Little Cottonwood - Snowtires/Chains ?

We're heading to SLC tomorrow. We're renting a 4WD vehicle, which I thought was sufficient for driving up to Alta and other CC resorts - but Alta's site presently says that snowtires or chains are required.

Do I need to get some chains? Is this regulation consistently enforced throughout the season, or only when a certain state of road conditions is declared? I don't recall this being an issue in my previous trips to Alta.

Thanks,

You'll be all set with the 4WD, no chains required for 4WD vehicles.

I spent one season in SLC and skied Little Cottonwood just about every weekend. The road crews do a great job, and I didn't own or use chains. This was with a rear wheel drive car.

Don't know if Utah's chain law is like Wyoming's, but in Wyoming you are now ok with either 4x4 or full snow tires, all seasons don't make it. In 25 years of living in states with chain laws I have never know one person to get ticketed.

You will be fine with just 4 wheel drive. We got alittel snow last night. But the roads are in pretty good condition and I am sad to say not much snow in the weather forecast.
