I know there are a lot of people on this forum who live in summit county. We are planning a motorcycle trip in late august. Where are the best places to camp around vail and maybe down into the aspen area. Any advice in this area of Colorado would be appreciated.

If you are riding road bikes. Hwy 82 from Twin Lakes to Aspen is a beautiful drive. Just below the top of Independence Pass there is good camping up Lincoln Creek and at Grizzly Reservoir, Weller Lake and Difficult campground are also nice and right above town. For a nice loop drive Hwy 82 to Basalt and turn up the Frying Pan River road up to Ruedi Reservoir. There is a nice campground just above Meredith. This road will turn into a pretty nice dirt road for a short distance near the top of Hagerman Pass before returning to Turquoise Lake.

If you are riding dirt bikes. Aspen to Crested Butte via Pearl Pass is a great ride and you can sleep on the ground wherever you want!

cracked me up

skidad I have no idea where you should stay BUT the mountain roads are awesome in Colorado. Try Minturn, Leadville, Poncho Springs, Gunnison, Lake City, Ouray, Durango. Get a good look at big mountains and bigger valleys ... awesome on a bike.

Enjoy the ride

There are a lot of National Forest campsites around Lake Dillon, all of which are easily accessible. However they're also crowded. The least crowded campsites are on the south side off Swan Mountain Road (the only major road between Dillon and Keystone.)

You can also camp at Camp Hale between Minturn and Leadville. Also easily accessible.
