Where HAVE you skied? - Page 12

Hmmm…. in compiling my current list I noticed I haven't skied in CO, NM or MT, so I have still have a few dozen places I'd like to visit.  I had about 20 years of not skiing, so I suppose that partly accounts for my pathetic list, most of which has grown in the last 4 years.  That said, I'm not making it a goal to accumulate a long list. At least that's my story right now.;)

Among the places I have visited, Red Mt, Schweitzer and Brundage have offered some amazing skiing, as good or better than the majors I've been to. The lack of crowds is definitely an attraction for me, so much so that I don't feel compelled to go to most major destination resorts just to pay more money and get less skiing.  Idaho and BC interior totally rock.

Summit at Snoqualmie (Ski Acres in the old days)

Yeah, that's a great point. I also think returning to places I've visited before but with different conditions and new skills can make them be a really different place.

If that's pathetic, my list is non-existent. :D That looks like a pretty sweet list to me... but I'm not sure how you missed CO within all that.

I was being facetious.  It is a pretty sweet list.  I missed CO because it's a farther driving distance from the PNW.  The only trip I've flown to was Sunshine Village for the closing weekend in May last year, which was such a poor year that I was willing to fly to get in a last weekend of skiing.   The fly or drive cost-benefit analysis comes in to play for most of my ski excursions.

Not sure of the criteria for this post, but isn't Klein Matterhorn part of Zermatt?

In terms of lift ticket, yes. In terms of geography, Klein Matterhorn is separated from Rothorn/Gornergrat by off-piste active glaciers, connected by lift only near the bottom.  One of the ski days from Klein Matterhorn was an off-piste guided tour on a couple of those glaciers. That's rather similar to Whistler and Blackcomb, which I also count separate.  In that case, when I first skied there in 1991, Whistler and Blackcomb were under separate ownership.  These are gray areas/judgment calls.  But in the Alps where acreage is massive and often geographic boundaries well defined, it makes sense to me to count some places separately.  The other gray area relates to merged areas, which I count separate if I skied them separate before the merger.  Examples: Mt. High/Holiday Hill (1981), Bear Mt./Snow Summit(2002), Big Sky/Moonlight Basin(2014).  An eastern example where I've skied neither is Sugarbush/Mt. Ellen (don't know date).

Put Blue Knob in western PA and Plattekill in NY on your bucket list for a ski weekend. :)

I skied Plattekill this 2016 Jan 29 and even though I only skied off of one lift, I had a good time.  Definitely worth the trip.

My list, short as it is:

New Jersey

Hidden Valley

Belle Mountain (Small hill)

New York

Belleayre

Cortina (where I first went skiing – located near Hunter)

Plattekill

Pennsylvania

Blue Mountain

Montage

Shawnee

Whitetail

Thats it. List where you have skied in this lifetime. For some of us this is a memory test. Any anecdotes for kicks.

PA

Elk,  Was the home hill.

Big Boulder

Jack Frost

Shawnee

Camelback

Blue Knob, current "go to" Great midweek prices.

Montage

Hidden Valley

WA

Baker,   Probably my favorite at the time. I want to get back out now that I'm old and try it again.

Snoqualmie

Stevens

Crystal, It rained the night before, I think there were 2 other east coast imports and me skiing. All of the West Coasters that I went with quit because of the ice.

OR

Mt Hood,

Mt Bachelor. Went out there and OR didnt get snow. Ripped the left knee open on volcanic rock, found out GF wasnt good at "treat for shock"

VT

Killington,  Cold, really really cold. Not to bad at the bottom, but 3/4 up the lift it was a ice cream headache. Was young and dumb, skied hard for 2.5 days. Quit at noon on day 3. I remember not being able to straighten up at the bottom of the last run.

Pico

CA

Squaw Valley, (95% sure) I got lost and went over the top. Ended up at the top of 3 vert drops. Had to watch a guy go over it, then did a What the heck. Crashed after I got through it.

I'm missing something.....

but thats close
