Your hotel is in Downtown, isn't it. I am planning to stay in Extended Stay America hotels (#10 on the UTA map) which is in Midvale (Union Park Ave.). They told me it takes about half an hour to get to the resorts (bus 92 to BCC and 98 to LCC). Yours may take even longer and may require transfers. Nevertheless, you can take a bus to ski in PC area closer, but the fare is going to be expensive. If I stay in Sandy, there is no way we can ski in PC via public transportation, takes too long.
There is a BCC+LCC 4 areas super lift tickets for $41/day for sale at the hotels, you should check it out. That lift tickets included UTA bus fares to BCC & LCC resorts.
The bus thing is all new to me, but I have driven to all resorts many times over.
BTW, if there is a real storm and the access road is closed, no one can get in, public or private. You may lose few valuable skiing hours/days. That is why people pay for slope side accomodations and why you can get away with cheap rates.
Read the 12/27/2003 notes from Dooley:
i didn't make it up little cottonwood canyon yesterday, too much snow. My mom(michigan) and my sister(illinois) called ywesterday, salt lake city made the national news, a LOT of snow. i haven't been able to get up the canyon yet today either, and with the avalanche danger it doesn't look like i will anytime soon. i love this place. i'll love it a lot more when i can get back to the bird. see you soon.
