Ok, here we go,
As you leave Kirkwood and reach the main road, Hwy 88 make a left on 88.
Follow 88 as it winds through the mountains, In Jackson 88 takes a jog on Hwy 49 to the north west, it's still hwy 88 however and then continues west after a few miles.
Continue on Hwy 88, It will join Hwy 12 as you pass "Dogtown" in Lodi. Hwy 88/12 will pass through Lockeford, make a right in Waterloo, and come to Hwy 99 in Stockton.
Go South on 99 and watch for "Crosstown Freeway" it's not very well marked(or was not the last time I drove through) and might also have signage for "to Hwy 5" or Stockton. I don't quite remember. If you see "charter way" take this off ramp. You have already passed crosstown freeway but you can take Charter way across Stockton as well. Go west on either Crosstown or Charter way to Hwy 5
When you reach Hwy 5 go south on Hwy 5 to Hwy 205.
Take Hwy 205 West to Hwy 580, (actually Hwy 205 dumps you onto Hwy 580 West) and stay on Hwy 580.
Hwy 580 will put you in Oakland.
If it's snowing, count on a long drive through the mountains however. You might be better off taking Hwy 50 to Meyers and then out to Kirkwood from there as they will often close 88 near the summit in storms for avalanche danger.
