Close to Chicago

I'm in Chicago and plan on skiing this weekend just for the day. Where's the best place to go (as far as terrain, hill size) within a 2.5 hour drive?

Speed Limits be damned? Cascade.

Cascade is about 180 miles away....hmmmm...have to think about if it'll be worth the drive.

Cascade is easily your best choice. It's about 3 hours from Chicago, all interstate driving. We should be 100% open by this weekend and crowds have been light. With the high speed quad you'll be able get all the vert. your legs can handle this early in the season.

I've haven't been yet, but am itching to go to Granite Peak at Rib Mountain in Wausau, WI. They seem to have expanded quite a bit in the last couple of years and have a 700' vertical, which is one of the highest in the Midwest. According to their website www.skigranitepeak.com it's a 3.5-4 hour drive from Chicago. Maybe a bit far for up and back in 1 day but easily doable for an overnighter. And you get to ski 2 days.

I have a feeling you're a bit biased towards Cascade as you're an emloyee there. Who knows, maybe I'll check it out!

Regarding Granite Peak- can't justify driving four hours for day trip but Granite does appear to be the best in the region for vertical and terrain.
