Be gentle, this is my first post on this forum. I'll be in Vail from the 27th through the 30th of March. I'm trying to get a sense of what shape the snow is in now and how it's likely to be then. I love skiing in a t-shirt and sunscreen but I'm not a big fan of slush and exposed mud....

Anyone been in that vicinity recently?

It has been warm, forecast for mid 50's this weekend. I think T-shirts and slush pretty much go together. Stay high and it will be better. Who knows maybe we will get that March storm we have been waiting for.

Topeka Kansas, eh? Was in your fair town a couple of weeks back. Do not think we have many Kansas Bears. Welcome.

Hey jstraw! Welcome to EpicSki ("Barking Bear Forums") from a fellow Topekan. Parents still live there, I moved out to Seattle in '87. Have fun in Colorado if you head out there!

Here's a link to the thread where AC (guy who graciously hosts and runs this site) explains origin of the Barking Bear: http://www.epicski.com/cgi-bin/ultim...=001178#000000

jstraw-
Welcome to EpicSki!

There will be quite a few Bears out here in Vail that particular week. Cgeib, coach13, and a few others will be out here.
The snow is definitely getting beaten up by the heat. Just today we set a record high for this date. It would be nice to believe that snow is somewhere on the horizon, but that might be a little optomistic at this point.
Undoubtedly, there are bare/muddy spots, with some pretty deep slush at the bottom of the mtn in the afternoon. But thats the way of springtime in the Rockies...
Plan on skiing early, and be done by 1:30-2pm...
