I was at Whiteface on 1/1 and 1/2 and conditions were interesting, but this was before the rain and warm up. Excelsior the blue trail of the summit of Little Whiteface sees heavy ski traffic and was a diabolical mix of frozen hard pack and sugar bumps with way to many people on it by 9:45 AM. Skyward was open and snow was being made on it so it was hard to see, but the snow was excellent: deep, loose and no slick spots. The best line on Skyward was skiers left but it required jumping the snow making hoses. Many of the the other open expert trails were boney (a little loose snow, frozen hard pack, rocks, gravel and dirt).
If the snow making this week was agressive it might be OK. Hopefully a local who has skied recently will chime in.
