New snow; Alta

Jeeze, I woke to 6 inches new, light, champaign fluff in the yard, and I'm in the valley. Alta's gotten 18 in the last 24 and still snowing hard. The canyon may well be closed but will try. We've had quite a drought through February but March is coming in like a lion. See ya.. alta skier.. If you're back, I'll be in an orange Patagonia shell.. which won't help much 'cause so many of us bought the same stupid off-price bright orange reject shells at the outlet store we call ourselves "the pumpkin patch." I'm off.

Luky, lucky, lucky.

For a contrast: here in Southern Ontario (Toronto area) we had the warmest winter on record. Rain today, rain tomorrow. I will try to go skiing Sunday (forecast is sunny with below freezing temps), but I can only imagine the quality of the slopes.

But I am happy for Alta folks just the same.

welL; it was pretty great. There was more like 24 inches. Everything off the high traverse was open; winds were howling about 50, it dumped all day and visibility was about nil.. in other words almost perfact except for it was only 8 degrees. seriously without the wind it would have been a 10. Tomorrow the storm abates and backside, ballroom and devils castle will probably open. Funny thing was we got up o.k. but then couldn't leave as the road closed for a couple hours for avalanche control. Had to keep skiing. Its nice when the only tracks you cross are your own from earlier in the morning. If the sun comes out tomorrow, so will the crowds. oh well...
