Silver Star vs. Sun Peaks

Thread Starter
Hola all you ski addicts! I'm new to the forum, and need some advice: Is Silver Star worth 1-2 days for Intermediates? We will be at Sun Peaks and may want to explore. Gracias!

Welcome GPaul! Based on my second-hand information (hopefully 1st-hand in 2003).... if the snow is good at Sun Peaks, I'd stay longer at Sun Peaks.

To review previous discussions about the two resorts on this forum you can go to the Epic Homepage, Search menu. You'll find a few threads there.

Please let us know about the trip when you get back.

Hello all.

I live in Sun Peaks, and let me tell you, it is THEE place to be in western Canada this year so far. Today we had seven lifts open on three mountains. I skied a lot of knee deep freshies on a number of runs. We have a lot of terrain, and although Silver Star usually has lots to offer as well, they're off to a slower start this year, so make sure you get the goods on what's really open before you travel this winter. If you want to see what it was like today, log onto www.sunpeaksresort.com, and check out the pic of the day. My friend Any is eatin' it up!

Cheers.

I agree that Sun Peaks will be a great place to spend your time. I try to make at least one trip to SP each year. I have not been there this year but with their new mountain opening up, it should only be better. I have previously posted that I think the trail layout is the best of any mountain I have skied and that includes all the west biggies. It is the perfect family area because of the easy ski in/out aspect of the mountain. In my estimation, it is a cruiser mountain with limited expert areas. It has some of the best grooming that I have ever made an arc on. Groomers aren't my passion, but I really enjoy them at SP. If you can hit a snow storm on a weekday, you will be skiing powder all day long. The place is almost deserted during the week. Weekends really aren't all that bad either. If I wanted to add a second resort, I would go to Big White before I'd make the trip to Silver Star. You may want to consider Whislter also.
