Arapahoe Basin, Loveland, Wolf Creek, Eldora, Ski Cooper, Powderhorn, Monarch, Silverton....
I'm not sure on the "under $30" all season, but most of these great smaller areas fit that description at least in the "low season."
The spirit of skiing is alive and well at these resorts, where people go for only one reason--to ski! (Or board.) You can drive to the parking lot right at the base of the lifts, leave your shoes under a table at the base lodge, and enjoy the sport itself, pure and stripped of pretentiousness.
And the skiing can be excellent! These "little" resorts boast some of the best snow (Wolf Creek, Monarch, Powderhorn), best steeps (Arapahoe Basin, Loveland, Silverton), best bumps (Arapahoe Basin, Monarch), and best all-around family orientation, terrain blend, and learning terrain (Eldora, Powderhorn, Ski Cooper) in Colorado!
