Zermatt Hotel Recommendation

Anyone have any recommendations on Hotels to stay in in Zermatt? There are so many choices I'm not sure how to decide. I'm coming out off the Haute Route, would like something kinda nice after completing that trip.

Try Ambassador. It is on the far side of the village, by the train station, but it has sauna, pool and a good restaurant. It is also _relatively_ affordable.

For the ultimate, try the Riffelalp or in the village the Mount Cervin

Friends of ours just got back from Zermatt and said the Hotel Julen is amazing. They also thought Pirmin Zurbriggen's hotel over by the Klein Matterhorn lifts was really cool. And for what it's worth I believe the more formal Zermatterhof and Mont Cervin require jackets for dinner. Be sure to report back - it's a place I've always wanted to try.

interestingly, i met a bunch of guys from seattle on the tram ride to Stockhorn just last week. The last I saw of them - they were hiking with their skis past a sign that said something like - Achtung! Large Crevasses! No patrol at the end of day past this sign !!!

I'd second the Hotel Julen. A very nice 4*. Good location in the middle of town but off the main drag. You should be able to get a late season rate there. It would be a nice reward after the Haute Route. 3* Hotel Cheminee is also a good option. Lower priced that the Julen. These are both smaller, family run hotels rather than big tourist package type hotels.
Good luck on the Haute Route; I hope your weather conditions cooperate. Having done it multipe times, it's still stands out to me as one of the most memorable skiing adventures that the average skier can do.

For a reasonably priced option near to the funicular and cog railway train station try the 3* Hotel Biner. It has indoor pool, sauna, whirl pool etc and large rooms. Try this link http://www.hotel-biner-zermatt.ch

we stayed there in early December and it was really good, look out for the hammock type seats in the bar!
