My top tip at the moment would be Obergurgl/Solden. Small areas to try include Heiligenblut(2912m high) and Ankogel. A friend was at Ankogel a couple of days ago and said there was a lot of untracked powder to be had but the wind was strong. Heard word from Heiligenblut that conditions are pretty good there at the moment too.

Europe is suffering from 'soaha' syndrome at the moment (Snow only at high Alltitude). Currently snow is best in France then Switzerland then Italy then Austria
. It's just the way the cookey crumbles, this time last year Austria had the snow (up to 3 metres/117" at my local hill).
Here in Vienna we have seen wild swings in the temperature. A few days ago it was around -3 Deg C, yesterday it was +13 Deg C, today it is +5 Deg C. Last week it was as low as -10 Deg C. The warm waves have been bringing rain at lower levels (sub 1500 metres) and washing low level snow away.
Try to avoid anything below 1500 meters, places with good snow include -
Kaprun. Good snow 100% open, very busy at the moment, heard they had even stopped selling day passes. Would avoid at the moment despite the good snow as you would probably spend most of your time in the lift line. Good for mid week skiing but avoid weekends & holidays.
Hintertux. As above with slighty less snow.
Obergurgl & Solden. The size of the village and location/road network (away from Germany and only one main road in/out) means queues are normaly non-existent and much shorter than other places at this time of year.
Obertauern. Similar to Obergurl but more crowded.
St Anton - 75% open. Austrias premier ski resort good on & off piste but very busy at this time of year.
Feel free to PM me if you require any more info.
PS James. Kitz' saw some new snow (approx 25cm fresh, 50cm total) and more is forcast so all may not be lost.[ December 31, 2002, 04:48 AM: Message edited by: DangerousBrian ]
