HEAD Supershape Magnum - performance on powder ?

Hi,

I have been considering the supershape Magnum as my carver skis, I normally ski in western Canada (Banff, Lake Louise) and Montana.

However, I wonder...how would these skis perform if I get a fresh powder day with lots of the white stuff falling ?

Would it still be rideable or unmanageable at all ?

Thanks a lot

I can tell you about the 2015 Supershape i.Rally.  It is a lot of fun in thin powder (up to 6") as well as crud & bumps, partly because of the flex pattern.  And, it is the only ski I've made a 180° clean carve on.  I'm planning on demoing the new 2017 (actually 2018) i.Rally and maybe others at the demo days in Whister in April.  See if you can find a demo.

The Magnum is narrower, less so-called rocker, and a different flex pattern.  I know that the i.Speed, narrowest, isn't very good in soft stuff.  You really need to demo.

If you can test drive the Rally and the Titan in soft snow before committing, both will be better in fresh snow and love to carve hard with a 1/3 tune.

I have demo'd the Magnum (170) and the Titan (163, 170), I bought the Rally (163). I loved the Magnum but it likes to be on edge all the time, the Titan was burly, too stiff for me so I took a chance on the Rally and they were just right. Skied the Rally last week at Gore Mountain during winter storm Stella and they did fine in those conditions. I am 5'7 180# advanced skier.

Thanks a lot, considering the comments on this thread I am now more tempted to go with the Rally rather than the Magnum;

I just need to make sure that it is REALLY stable at high speeds, it looks there's no doubt it's a carver machine (as I want !)

I am 6' at 200 lbs, I'm definitely going with the 177 cm with either pair I choose

I hit 45+ mph most days and the Rally is definitely stable at that speed. And that's the 163 so the 177 should be even more stable.

It sounds like you are looking at Head skis mostly but I thought I would mention the Stockli Laser AX.  It has a lot of very good reviews.  @dawgcatching and others have posted info on them.  Might be worth reading or talking with Scott.  A bit more money but if you are looking for one ski it could be the ski.
