Should My Wife Use Junior Skis

Need help deciding if my wife needs junior or womens skis. She's skied before but isn't a mountain beater by any stretch. She is really quite small which makes me think she would be better in junior skis.

The thing I like most about junior skis is the price. They're like half the price.

Details

4'11"

100 lbs

5-6 womens shoe size

beginner-intermediate level

Thanks!

You'd have to get her in Junior boots too to safely fit the junior size bindings that come with junior skis. Aside from that, I'd say there shouldn't be a problem. I had an ex who was 4'8 and 110lbs and I had her on Jr Skis just fine.

I have friends who are happy with junior skis.  I'm 5'0", 110 pounds and have always bought women's skis.  I was an older intermediate when I first bought skis.  Definitely like softer skis better.

What has she been skiing?  Brand?  Length?

She has used rental skis. Never owned any. Not sure the specifics of the rentals. What size skis do you use? What would you recommend for her?

At 100 lbs, she is right on the fence.  Either would work: shorter length women's skis or junior skis.

When I was an intermediate (10-15 years ago), the skis I bought were 145-149.  Have become an advanced skier in recent years so now my all-mountain skis (rocker) are 159cm and my skis for Mid-Atlantic groomers are 149cm.  I demo'd to figure out which brands made the most sense.  For me, Rossignol, Dynastar, and K2 were the first brands that I liked.  Volkl skis are popular for many women, but were too stiff.  Even now, I would not buy a Volkl although I check them out at free demo days.

In general, for an advancing intermediate, nose-height should work.

What region are you two going to ski in the most?  How are you going to get her boots?
