Trip Reports - Patchskiing October 2016

Thread Starter

Instead of posting a separate TR for every patchskiing day, I'm going to put them in one thread for the month of October. I already did so here for the month of June, here for the month of July, here for the month of August, and here for September. (I also plan to do this for upcoming months.) I hope that others will add to this. I also hope to provide views, creamed corn and soft-serve snow images, along with some dog stoke.

I'll post a few highlights from each day.

If you would like to see more just go to patchskiing.com

Roundtop, October 1st
Method Man Patch

Looking up as Dookey67 reaches our destination, the Method Man Patch.

Stev starts a shadow skiing run with Round Top in the background.

Dookey67 descending above Winnemucca Lake.

A panoramic view from the top of the Method Man Patch.

Dookey67 skiing the Method Man Patch with Lake Tahoe in the distance.

Stev slarving and spraying corn snow.

Before heading out we took notice of some flowers.
A late bloomer below the Method Man Patch.

Our streaks were extended. This was Dookey67's 106th consecutive month skiing and Stev's 156th consecutive month skiing.

I hope you have healed up completely enough to start another streak and that it lasts longer than your first one.

Nice going guys...another nervous time for my own ski streak (last year was a broken ankle in early October), but this unfavourable forecast so far.

Where will I find snow for month 133?

Dunderberg, October 29th.
Some recent high level snowfall fueled the desire to make some turns on new snow. Dunderberg would be the location of a snow seeking recon mission. Since there was no snow at the first turnoff (Elevation 9,500 ft.)we headed further up the road. A big snowdrift at around the 10,000 ft. elevation meant we would have to hike up from there.

After about 40 minutes of hiking I made it to Jack's Lake.
A panoramic view across Jack's Lake looking up at Dunderberg Peak.

I would ski back from near here.

Penny with Mono Lake in the background.

Stev on his first run.

Penny and Makisha with my wife Michele's shadow looking like she is wearing stilts.

Stev taking another run.

The recon mission was a success. The snow that was found was even better than expected.
