You should join us!

Upper West Side is my current stomping ground - for about 10+ years now (71st and West End Avenue). Prior to that it was Columbus Circle, and prior to that it was all over NYC.

Most of the NYC pubs are mostly gone due to the high rents. A decent space (2,000 sqft for example) can easily fetch $30,000 a month in the 70 and 80s and even in the 90s in a family neighborhood like the Upper West Side. Much more in hip areas like Soho and the West Village. That is a lot of pints you have to sell to cover the rent - more so if you don't start selling many until the evening. Once the leases are up most pubs can't renew them. Many of the ones still open own their space.

Dead Poet is on 81st and Amsterdam Ave.

Columbia?

Sounds like a blast, but unlikely. Hard to travel when school's on.

Yeah, I lived on 116th and RSD. Edward Said lived on the top floor, and one evening Salman Rushdie showed up in a black sedan with four guys in suits. The suits stayed by the car while Rushdie went up to talk to Said.

People said it was the windiest corner in New York -- two curved buildings facing each other across 116th.

Count me in for Old Town on Nov.3....I'll try to drag Peter along with me too.

A suggestion for a future get together would be the back room of Cafe Select in Soho. You have to walk through the kitchen to get there. It is entirely decorated with retro ski/snowboard stuff and a disco ball.

Sure!

Back in the 80s and well into the 90s there was the Ski Bar on the Upper East Side - https://www.facebook.com/The-Original-Ski-Bar-NYC-1990s-835830013103639/

Does anyone here plan on buying the Peak Pass? It's got access to 7 Northeast mountains and most importantly for me, Hunter Mountain.

Pretty good deal, if you ski those mountains. If you have that pass and are planning to ski Crotched, let me know. I'll be there Friday evenings in January.

Marked on calendar, I hope I can make it and see some NYC folks.

I would love to come, but, alas, I'll be abroad from mid October to mid November. If anyone wants to do a casual meet up before I head out I'm all game. I also climb a lot in Queens at the Cliffs LIC so if anyone wants to give that a try I've got a free pass just laying around collecting dust.

Cheers!

Another climbing skier? Awesome. I get shit on by my climbing friends for prioritizing skiing.

I climb at Cliffs too.

I already have the Mountain Collective. I rather drive to Vermont for a weekend than ski Hunter or Windham (last year I squeezed in three days at Hunter to use up my BLC, credit to them, they did a good job of making snow in an abysmal winter).

Oh awesome!! I'll be there tonight for a bit of climbing and then dinner with some climbers. After it'll be a month until I make it back to NYC.

Let me know when you hit the Cliffs and maybe we can project together.

Hey all, I'll be a bit late to this. Work doesn't let out until 6:30😫

Are you going to have a little sign or something?  I don't know anybody!

At a busy bar going from person to person enquiring,  "Barking Bear?" would be weird.

Can we figure out an easy way to tell who's who?

(Unless we all decide to wear ski helmets).

You mean you weren't planning to wear your helmet? :eek But what if you fall down at the bar? I've heard that you could hit your head.

As someone not attending, that solution gets my vote!! Either that, or someone bring a shot-ski...

You could just ask around for people who ski.  If they don't turn out to know about EpicSki, have the join the party when do you find a Bear or two. ;)

I'll be there.

There is only one color for NYC - black. Maybe I'll break with tradition and go with a paler shade of black.

Holy cow, it's THIS Thursday, the day after tomorrow!

I'll need to shuffle some appointments around. But I think I can make it.

I've met KingGrump at Aspen, but only in ski outfits. Can't be 100% sure I can recognize in street clothes.

I usually get around by bike. So if I remember, I'll take my ski helmet for Thursday! :D

Is anyone else here yet? I'm in aneon green jacket.
