We've had a pretty good summer thus far, even considering it has been a LOT wetter than previous years. Golfing has been very rewarding with regular scores in the low 70's both at the on hill course: http://www.sunpeaksresort.com/summer/golf/ & at several courses down in the valley.
That said,..... It has kept some of the "summer grooming" crews off the hill until recently,..... The mowers & slashers are now out in full force to prep for winter.
Work has started on the clean up of "In Tatters" (Double Black on Morrisey) which was rough cut last summer but because they ran out of time to properly groom the slope, it needed a lot more snow last season before it could open. That should be complete within another week or so.
A completely new "Banked Slalom" course has been created weaving in & out of the trees alongside Sundowner & Suncatcher,.... Should be fun to hit this season. ...... Some work has also been done on the banks of the bike park runs under the Sunburst Chair to make them more "skier friendly" for the coming season as well. The new DH MTB course for the Canadian National Championships will be fun to ski once we have good coverage as well,.... The upper parts will be seriously tight & quick though.
Other slope stabilisation has been carried out on Peak A Boo & 3 Bears,.... With some more work done on Grand Return as well.
A new full size NHL ice rink will be up & running for the coming winter too,..... A fully refrigerated rink will eventually get a roof & be closed in for summer skating,.... The new rink is located next to the pool & community centre.
Also in progress is the new medical centre & ski patrol building just across from the base of the Sunburst Chair,.... Plus a much needed all season walking trail from the Staff Accom down near Burf, to the Village is in the mix.
