Aspen can ski quite well on less than 2ft and will never have much over 50% open till that second weekend of December.
That weekend also corresponds with Highlands and Buttermilk's openers and is a great time to get some early season skiing, without bumps.

I'm not getting on a airplane to ski exclusively a few groomers. I can daytrip 2 hours to Big Bear and do that in a similar mid-December time frame many seasons.
One of the variables about base depths is that some areas handpick larger rocks off the slopes in summer. That's one reason Big Bear skis fine on 2 feet of manmade. Sun Valley and Sun Peaks are also notable in this regard. I've seen pics of the Face of Bell in summer and it's obvious Aspen does some summer slope manicuring too.
