Foot fusion; 7 screws in foot; Need help with pressure points

Hi new to the boards. I'm journeying into actually getting passes and my own equipment this year after sporadic bits of skiing over the years. I had a mid foot fusion last December and I'm looking to get back to the slopes this season. (Taking advantage of the Epic Schoolkids pass for my kids). The trouble is that of the 7 screws in my foot, one of the screw heads is very close to the surface of the top of my foot. You can see and feel the bump it makes on the top of the first metatarsal (the foot bone leading into the big toe). Thankfully I can get my foot into my Salomon Quest Access boots however that pesky screw creates quite the pressure point.

I'm looking for some advice on how to relieve a pressure point that doesn't involve buying new boots or getting the screw removed. I'm an extremely casual skier and this year will be mostly focused on teaching my kiddos to ski. I'm hoping that heat moulding the boots will help but wondering if there are any other suggestions. TIA Cross posted from gear boards before seeing this board.

IMO it is unlikely heat molding the boots will accomplish anything but there are various things you can do, but why not take them to a fitter who could then see your foot inside the boot and better understand the problem.  However, you can probably grind the tongue thinner in the area directly above the screw.  It is possible a foam donut attached to the tongue with the hold directly over the screw will help.  Any technique that will reduce pressure directly over the screw or increase it in the area near the screw.  Should work.

Not sure I agree with Lou about the heat molding not working for your issue---the trick is to add some padding over the screw head area inside your sock as you have the shell and liner molded.  You will need to get some help from a dealer that has experience with heat molding the shell  to get a good result.  The padding over the screw head will increase pressure while the heat molding is being done but should eliminate the issue after the extra padding is removed.

Good luck

Thanks for the suggestions. I enlisted the help of a boot fitter today and he was able to alleviate most of the discomfort with an insert and some grinding in the insert.
