Steamboat Springs Music Fest 2017 [Jan, a few never-evers]

Hi everyone!  I'm in the process of planning (fingers crossed we get in) a trip to Steamboat Springs for Music Fest.  Any tips for getting through registration, or selecting the right resort?  Is there a preregistration available?  Also, for us newbies, what equipment would y'all suggest us renting vs buying?  TIA!

Welcome to EpicSki!  I gather the Music Fest is in early Jan 2017.  When you say "newbies", do you mean you've never skied?

4 out of the 7 of us have never skied before so we're pumped, but also a little clueless!

Ah, I suggest you start by taking a look at the Beginner Zone.  For those who have never skied, how about ice skating?  Roller blading?

Do you have anything resembling warm jackets and ski pants?  If not, you might consider renting.  There are a few companies that have started up in recent years.  There are some links in this thread:

Photo was taken at Steamboat (1/6/12) during Texas Music Fest week, an annual thing in early January draws 4-5 thousand skiing music freaks from the Lone Star State.  Day time events lightly attended, but I liked this group.  They had a sound similar to ZZ Top.  Some of the evening music events were in a giant tent and drew big crowds.  There is the potential for this to be a very cool time of year, so bring warm clothes.  However, it was pretty nice when I was there in Jan 2012. If you want to be within walking distance of that tent then look at condos around base of ski trails because it's pretty close.  This is also good for easy access if you go skiing.  The town is very much worth spending some time strolling and is 2 or 3 miles from the slopes.

Here are more details on my visit in 2012 about the skiing and some fun non-ski stuff to do:  http://www.dcski.com/articles/1330
