Warm greetings from an oldish dog, but new member, from New Zealand.
I thank anyone in advance who can provide any educated opinion on the following.
Long story short, after years of slogging it out in my own small/medium sized business I am eyeing the finer things in life as the age of 50 draws close, and my back and knee still allows. Think family time, me time, that sort of stuff.
I have been an annual visitor to Colorado for a good few years now, enjoying the best of times with family, and just love the people and the place, let alone the skiing and fly fishing. We have visited elsewhere but love Colorado.
I would like suggestions that any of you may have on where I will get my best bang for buck for a top figure of 400k in Colorado.
I am open minded to everything - free standing homes, condos, managed, unmanaged etc etc and of course have googled till it hurt - but theres nothing like local info. We are not expecting to make money in anyway, and realise that things like this on paper often end up being a loss, we just want a place to call home over there I guess. Sure, we will rent it out ourselves to selected people when we are not using it, but primarily its for us. If it was unmanaged we would need some sort of regular property care/company but as I said we are completely open minded about resorts but do prefer Colorado.
We looked at a Crestwood/Snowmass condo last year but believe we can do better, especially with the annual fees and commissions charged on bookings which were rather eye watering, even though we love Snowmass as a family suggestion we'd like info as well on alternative options.
Coming from NZ we fly via LAX or SFO and like the fact that around 2 hours from there on a domestic flight we can be close to the best Colorado can offer.
So where in Colorado would you look?
Heres a wish list with every point being negotiable.
1. Ski in ski out or ultra close to lifts
2. Low maintenance
3. Secure in good area
4. Sleep 4min - 7/8 - ideally something like a spare room for parents and loft etc for the kids.
5. We want it to look and feel like a ski holiday home, no characterless type buildings
6. If fly fishing or hunting or a good National Park was close by and accessible that would also be a major plus
7. Within 3 hours drive from Aspen/Eagle/Denver airports
Aside from that we just want I guess what we all want when buying something like this - nice people, nice location, no drama, good skiing, lots of smiles.
I really don't know what else to say aside from my sincerest thanks, and I hope I haven't come across as too much of a wannabe.
ps. If I can ever reciprocate with advice on skiing down here it would be a pleasure
