Is anyone in either of these silly threads trying to say one small group (pick a stupid acronym) should be given different weighted value for their opinions? I have not seen that said by anyone. I keep seeing folks argue elegantly against it... but I have not seen it actually proposed. The PASA strawman was established after someone said "hey, having a data base of heights and weights that can be used when sifting through advice might not be quite as valuable as it seems. There are other factors that go into giving good advice." That's it. That is the only thing that was said. By applying a PASA and a bit of basic propaganda technique, we get "Industry Insiders are trying to silence the voices of Epicski!!"
Bogatyr, I'm glad you brought up your "Kastle Skis- Vastly Overrated" thread. It was wonderful, I suggest anyone who hasn't seen it check it out. I can give some cliff notes- KS-VO, 11 pages of one person saying 'kastle skis aren't good' over and over while dozens and dozens of posters say "I really like mine". 11 pages. "They are not good" "I like mine" "you shouldn't" "I do" "you're wrong". Wonderful. Seriously, go check it out.
Here is the way I see Epicski gear advice, there are two groups of people who want 'advice' here.
Group one (G1) find Epicski, ask a relatively straightforward question about gear 'should I buy X or Y' (SIBXoY), they really, honestly, just would like to know which choice is better for them. (IHJWTKWCIBFM). A simple answer is what they are looking for. (SA,P*) ((simple answer, please)).
Group two (G2) participate on Epicski, or just really fancy themselves and would really like to become confused. They do not seem to want an 'answer' they want to discuss and debate. (NA,P. IJWTD&D).
I enjoy giving SA,P to G1, G2? Well... I like trains but I don't care for engineers.
