As the title says, I need a daily driver for Vail. Vail is my home resort, so I will be spending the majority of my time there. With end of season deals, I'm seeing a lot of different skis that look as if they will foot the bill.
The problem, is that I tend to take people at face value and give everyone the benefit of the doubt - maybe I'm a little too trusting. I have been to several local shops, all which seem to carry roughly the same brands of skis, and I get a different answer for each one. "You should get Ski X b/c it will be best." I guess I just don't know if it's a solid recommendation, or the shop guy just wants to sell skis. With boots, it was/has been different. "This is the boot for you." says bootfitter. I take my boots, and go on my happy way.
About me: I am 5' 4", 160lbs, advanced skier, who skis semi-aggressively. I don't always wants to ski fast, but when I do, I appreciate a ski that will hold up. At times, I do like to "cruise" down the mountain if you will. I don't really ski green runs unless they are a pathway to get somewhere else on the mountain (this is almost unavoidable in Vail). I prefer challenging terrain. Nothing crazy though. I normally ski a mix of blues, blacks, and some double black terrain. When there is good snow, I rarely spend time on the front side of the mountain. I love the trees.
I'm looking for something I can use as my "daily driver or everyday" ski. Something for when it hasn't snowed in awhile - in between storms, hard pack, etc. Something that will function well on the frontside, as well as on the back side when conditions are less than optimal for a fatter ski.
Here are the skis I am currently looking at:
Nordica NRGY 90
and possibly, Kastle MX88 (these are rare finds I know - and the main reason they aren't top of my list)
I HAVE demo'd the NRGY's - also have demo's Rossi E88's (did not like) and Blizzard Brahmas (stiffest thing I've ever skied) - great ski though.
All of the above are readily available locally, and well under market value. The Kendo's and the Nordica's would be new, the Kastle's are this season's demos.
