Roof Racks for 2009 Honda CRV

Thread Starter

I would like to get a roof rack for my CRV.  Do you know of a quality rack that is multi purpose?  Would like to use it to haul skis, but also anything else that can be put on the roof like a kayak.  The car looks to have multiple spot on the roof rails for mounting spots, just don't know what to get or where.  Thanks!

You have lots of chhoices. Does the CRV have rails or do they bolt into the roof? If it has rails, are they solid (like and Audi)  or not (ie can you tie a rope through them?).

Yakima, Thule, Inno, Rhino all makes decent racks, it all depends on what you are wanting to spend. For the most part I have gotten away from Thule racks because they never really fit quite as well as expected, and the square bars rust after a few years and quite frankly they aren't all that cheap. I have pretty much gone with OEM racks or OEM style (aero) racks. The last set I bought off of Amazon are Rola for a Mazda 3.

I think Amazon is going to be your friend here.

I used a handful of sites to get familiar with a few brands and what'd fit my vehicle, then ended up going cheap by just watching Craigslist and a few other places for used.

nice thing on either the all brand sites or OEM page is one can get a feel for the product line up and what all fits a specific type of rack. Most have a contact link to ask questions specific for your vehicle.

rackwarehouse.com, anythingauto.com, rackattack.com/fit, etrailer.com and as noted Amazon ...  Most places seemed to have a sale going on when I was looking in fall, but this may be normal. Of course the OEMs too.

eg, for 2015: https://www.etrailer.com/roof-2015_Honda_CR-V.htm

One thing to think about too is if you have a sunroof. I opted for a higher standoff as we have an Explorer with a moon roof. I'm pretty sure a reg rack would give sufficient standoff but read a few posts noting on our vehicle, some crossbar systems are low profile and depending on the accessory (topper, etc) could be a wee close to the glass.

I opted for a heavier crossbar too, one that carries higher weight just because I feel "better" about it being under loaded.

being in bike heaven there should be a decent number of accessory stores up in Wi too. Seeing first hand may be well worth the price, or hit up someone on a trail. The CR-Vs are super popular so likely find a few folks with the toys for opinion.

When you buy a "base rack", it is a multi-purpose system, as you'll be purchasing the cross bars, then you buy additional accessories to haul the stuff you want.

your owner's manual can tell you where to place the cross bars, as well as rack manufacturer's specific instructions for the "fit kit" for your car, in this case, sounds like you have "flush side rails".

the usual aftermarket brands:

Thule

Yakima

then there's others like Inno, sportrack, etc.

And Honda should have them also, as accessories.
