Ski Brake Width Question

Thread Starter

I have some new skis (flat) that are 125mm in the waist.  I can get a screaming deal on some Jesters, but the brake width is 136mm.  Am I pushing the limit of the brakes catching while I am skiing or grabbing my pant leg??

I don't want to buy and switch brakes out since the season is over.  I would probably just defer and keep looking for some 130s over the summer if the 136s are not going to work.

It should be fine. I think the guide line is within 15mm of the waist width.

By the end of the summer you should be able to get an ebay (or elsewhere deal) on Jesters (used or new) with 130s for ~ $175.00 or so. This is the way I'd go, but I usually get smaller, not larger, if the break range isn't close to the ski width  (eg, 110s that get bent out to fit a 117 ski, rather than use the 130; the newly available 120s would have been ideal.).  130 for you seems so perfect, but dunno.

Clearly, the 120s would work also, if that's what is on a pair of Jesters you find; but 120s are less common than 130s, and less ideal because of the bending.
