Monitor Pass Dusk Patrol, April 7, 2016

When the timing and temperatures are right I can do some dusk patrol skiing up at Monitor Pass since it is only 30 minutes from my house up to Leviathan Peak. When the road is open and there is still enough remaining snow I can ski Monitor Pass after work.

Monitor Pass Dusk Patrol, April 20, 2016

My wife and I went mountain biking up at the pass a couple of days earlier on April 18th. We saw some snow patches on different aspects than those I had skied earlier. Dookey67 also joined us.

We found another aspect to ski.

Dookey67 carving down a ridge

Stev slarving down a ridge

Stev enjoying more of the corn harvest

Dookey67 showing the trees the proper way to angulate

Stev bootpacking up for another run

Stev skiing into the sunset

very cool. Thanks for sharing.

That's working for your turns!. For many people living in California that's getting up there in elevation.

FYI Monitor pass is 8300ish ft. Leviathan peak is 8900 ft.

For comparison. Top of KT is 8000. Top of Granite chief is 9000.

Very soon if not already, Sonora pass will be open and then you should be able to get to the snow at 9600 ft

Sonora Pass is also a favorite dusk patrol location. It is about an hour long drive from my house to Sonora Pass.

Monitor Pass Dusk Patrol, May 9, 2016.

After being closed due to some recent storm activity, Monitor Pass reopened yesterday. Due to the warmer daytime temperatures I opted for a later start to give the snow a chance to set up a bit.

I started my approach at 6:40 PM.

Here is a photo of the ridge of snow I skied.

Penny:

I also attempted some self-timer photos. Here is are three from a sequence:
1. Stev has to make a sudden hop due to Makisha's blocking manuever.

2. Stev completes his hop turn and Makisha slides down.

3. Penny joins Makisha in following my ski tails.

I finished my mission at 7:50 PM.
