RIP.

I just spoke with my 22 year old son this morning,  on his way out to the BC.

I can't imagine the pain, her parents must feel.

CNN cover it briefly yesterday (I think it was CNN).  They allege she was 100% prepared and even wearing an airbag.  Not sure what movie they were filming.

Condolences to the family and friends

Based on few articles in local Swiss newspapers, she was basically swiped off the wall at top part, and tumbling down alll the way to bottom of the wall, about 1000 meters lower. She was dig out by crew in just few minutes, way before rescue helicopter from nearby base managed to came there, but was dead already at that time. I assume it was due trauma, as based on photo of the mountain and path where she was going down, she was going through several cliffs and rocks. With this, no helmet or airbag would help I guess... unfortunately...

Here'a picture of the face just after the avalanche (Source: Wallis Police):

A few weeks ago, Sahara sand was deposited on the Alps. The yellow-ish layer you see is that sand. The grains form a weak layer in the snow, obviously, much like a wind-loaded face, as the shape of the individual snowflakes become more facetted, just like grains of sand.

Here's photo with avi path... avalanche cought her at start of red arrow, and was taking her all the way down to bottom of the wall. At least based on article in Blick.

Dam, that's a rowdy line.

I was skiing with George Rodney parents last week and I think I'm just fine with my kid not being a pro.

A lot of pressure on these young athletes to push the envelope.
