another 2017 when and where... kinda.. [3 weeks in Jan, coming from New Zealand] - Page 2

By the way if you think you'd ski 5 days or more at Whitefish, get the frequent skier card before Christmas, as break even is after four days.

If your family or friends are Costco members, they can also get you tickets there, last year was $109 I think for two tickets.. There's no kids price on that, though. Although might have entitled you to a discount for them in addition to your tickets.

Hi OP, sounds like you've got an awesome trip coming up.  Don't write off Tahoe - some great skiing there.  This Kiwi is a big fan of Kirkwood in particular - quite a different mountain to anything I've experienced in NZ (Hutt, Porters, Remarks, Coronet, Cardrona, Treble Cone).  Did 15 days there this season and still just scratching the surface. Tons of interesting terrain, and not that busy even on weekends.  Plenty of powder days this season at least :-)

If OP does end up doing the Montana version, I would second what @sibhusky suggested and hit up Fernie. It'll be much closer than anything in Alberta (Fernie is about 2 hours away), and that time of year will be better for having sufficient snow that opens up interesting terrain. The upper mountain is amazing.

You may want to be cautious about Canada because a number of car rental companies will not let you take cars from the U.S. into Canada - so you may want to look into that. Additionally, if they do, you'll want to get a good all-wheel drive because our snow clearing sometimes...well, let's just say that 'clearing' is a very loosely defined term here.
