Schweitzer's closer was one of epic proportion with bluebird skies, temps in the 60's and plenty of cold ones in the parking lot.
Jeff Cates The One Trick Pony busting out "The Cheerleader"
As Cates, Gold Member and myself pulled up to the chairlift on Saturday morning you could feel the anticipation as dozens of the local die hards were in the line up trying to squeeze out every last drop out of their ski season.
With temps hovering just over freezing we made tracks to Jacks Dream off the Lakeview triple. With it's exposure this run should have good, edgeable snow. Our inclination was right so we yo-yoed a few laps there. Before we knew our posse of friends with the same Bat Shit Crazy passion for skiing tripled in size.

With a group that consisted of local Schweitzer ski legend Dan Herby of Hot Dog the Movie fame, Dufenhorst, The Evil Elf, Mullen, Rasmussen, Rizzutto and a few others who rolled in.
We did hot laps off the triple hitting the Face and Buds Run which is a steep groomer. The short rides on the Lakeview Triple were filled with plenty of jabs (Usually at GoldMember) and lots of laughs at each others expense. By 10:30 the corn was starting to go off and skiing was getting pretty damn good now, mix in a nice booter, some airtime and a soft spring snow landing you have the making for a fun session. When the opportunity presents it self to Old Dogs, you got to seize it while you can!

By noon conditions were still holding their own and we started venturing around hitting top to bottom runs on Stiles, K-Macs and C-Chute. With each passing lap on the Great Escape quad we would pass the infamous Wang Shack where spring party mode was going off at Full tilt. The PBR's were going down up there!
ShotzSki's The Evil Elf going back to his bump skiing days
Conditions held up to about 2:30 pm just about when our legs were running out of steam from pushing that heavy snow around. It was time to throw in the towel and head to the parking lot for the annual Tailgate party and celebrate with a beer and ride on the Shotzski.
Way to wrap another Schweitzer Ski Season
This was my 39th season skiing at the Schwiz and it was Bittersweet weekend for sure! Until next winter Schweitzer.
