Elan Race SLX World Cup

Thread Starter

I have just just got a pair of these skis in 170cm.

They are not Waveflex, and I think they are from 2005/2006 season or so..

But, if anybody can tell me more about them?

Are they really Race Stock or Retail WC version?

What I also noted - it is written only 'Designed/Engineered in Slovenia' (and not 'Handmade in Slovenia' as in all current Elan Race line). Does it mean they are made somewhere else?

I'm pretty sure they are race stock but they aren't FIS. I think even back then they would have to be 165 and 13m.

Below the barcode is the year they were made so they probably are from the 05/06 season.

I don't know for sure where they were made but I don't know of Elan making their skis anywhere else.

I think there was never 170cm SL ski (with never I mean nowadays in "carving" skis era), which means it's not race stock ski. Race stock skis were always made in Elan's RD in Begunje, Slovenia, while for normal production skis it's not the case. Elan had few factories outside of Slovenia (mainly Austria) and I think in 2005, they were still operating, so based on this I would say it's not made in Slovenia, as otherwise it would say "Made in Slovenia", not "Designed/Engineered in Slovenia". But even now, when Elan doesn't have any factories outside of main factory in Begunje, it's still not sure Elan skis are made in Slovenia. There's a lot of cooperation going on between different companies, so it's perfectly possible for Elan skis to be made in France or Austria, just as well as Fischer or Rossignol or any other skis to be made in Slovenia ;)

Not true. Since 1998 no high end ski under Elan brand name was made in Furnitz (Elan's production in Austria), I personally supervised that. In 1996 PU production line was moved from Furnitz to Begunje and this was the end of ski production in Furnitz, only SB production for OEM customers was kept in Austria for a decade.

Low and mid ranged skis are made in various productions for different brand names, high end skis like SLX were produced in Elan Begunje only.

It's this long already? Damn... time really fly :D I was thinking it's just few years since they stopped production in Austria.

Furnitz wet bankrupt few years ago, but anyway, since 1998/99 only snowboard production was in Austria, no skis.
