Getting to Snowbird from SLC Downtown a Friday afternoon

Hi,

I’m visiting SLC from Sweden for a conference the 3-6th of May and "have to" hang around over the weekend due to when the flight home is.

Is there “ok” conditions to ski Snowbird that time? (Even though offpist might be ruled out :-)

I saw that the Aerial Tram is shut down during that period – if I stay at the Lodge, is it possible to start the day by skiing down to the Gadzoom Quad chair lift??

The big question; how to I get from downtown SLC to Snowbird on a Friday afternoon around 4-5 p.m.?

I read about public transportation, but those buses seem to run only to the 10th of April.

Other ways?

One way I did found was to go back to the airport and use a shuttle service from the airport to Snowbird - but it seems unnecessary. Or maybe it's not such a detour?

Best regards and very grateful for any help,

 Janne

I'm sure your hotel can arrange or Uber

Once you are at Snowbird, there is a free shuttle bus (the red ones) that goes around the resort.  Not only at bus stops, but will also pick up anyone walking on the resort roads who waves at the bus driver.  Snowbird has mountain hosts in blue jackets in a lot of places, including near the bus stops at the Snowbird Center and Creekside lodge (base of Gadzoom).

I would expect some of the airport shuttle services to also pick up from hotels downtown.  I have taken the Alta Shuttle from Alta Lodge to an airport motel when I had an early morning flight home.

It's hard to say in advance how "ok" the conditions will be. There's at least some chance of a huge snowstorm... and there's a better chance of lots of slush. My advice is to avoid multi-day tickets or advance purchase, but give it a try and see what you decide.

Plan to walk or take the free shuttle over to Creekside. There's at least some chance that they might have Chickadee and Creek Road open, but don't count on it.

I agree with givethepigeye... either arrange a ride through your hotel or use Uber... download the app to the phone you'll be using in advance. Or rent a car... May is a pretty slow season, so the cost might be comparable.

Yeah, check Uber pricing and use the airport shuttle as backup.

It's a short, easy trip to the airport on the light rail that runs through town, so not a bad way to go. The green line runs directly from downtown to the airport, and it only takes 15 -20 mins. It comes every 15 mins on weekdays, so pretty convenient. Just don't wait too long because SLC trains shut down earlier at night than folks from larger cities might be used to.
