Free Skiing at Mammoth [for PSIA 2 or 3 instructors late season 2016]

Great news everyone!

As you know Mammoth Mountain typically has one of the longest and best spring seasons in the USA. We would like to share our ridiculously good conditions with all PSIA/AASI level 2 & 3 instructors and invite them to join us for FREE skiing and riding at Mammoth for the remainder of the 2016 season.

For those interested you will need to contact the ski and snowboard school directly, there are housing and work opportunities should you be interested in working through June...

Contact Finlay Torrance for details: ftorrance@mammothresorts.com

For L1's they are actually offering a lot more than just a few free days of spring skiing ... motivation to get to the next level. Can't put a price on that.

Before every one goes crying "discrimination!", here is my take on the offer.

I received an email from Finlay the other day stating that "nothing is free".  As I understand it, this is basically a recruiting tactic to attract experienced LII & LIII instructors to Mammoth.  Similar to a time share pitch, you will listen to what they have to say & if interested, they may offer employment for the remainder of this season along with employee housing.  If not this season, at least they have planted the seed for future employment.

Having known a few longtime Mammoth Instructors over the years, I think it would be a great place to teach.  If this offer for late season employment had been on the table years ago when I still lived in California, I'd have jumped on it!

Kudos to them for thinking outside the box!!!

Levels II and III indicate more than a passing (season or two) interest in being an instructor. And there's that motivation thing.

The difference between the caliber of skiing and teaching needed to pass a Level 1 exam compared to a Level 2 exam is pretty significant. Nobody recruits Level 1's, because you can grow your own in a matter of a few weeks. If a mountain recruits a Level 2 and above instructor, that's essentially getting the experience and expertise that another mountain paid for in training that instructor.

Sorry, Didn't mmean to imply anyone was stirring the pot.
On the PSIA website someone seemed to take offense to Mammoths generous offer.

I skied with a Level 3 tele instructor Sunday who is heading up to Mammoth soon. Hope he'll have some days off so I can ski with him up there!
