A Day at The Horse

The next stop on the Freeride Media road trip had us heading east through Rogers Pass to Kicking Horse Resort.

                                                                              Some Big Country!

Here we we met up with good friend and longtime Kicking Horse local Steve Fisk who visited KHMR 13 years ago and never left. It seems the weather gods were looking out for us on this trip as we were greeted with another day of  Bluebird. We didn't even have to drink it blue on this tripA quick ride up the Golden Eagle Gondola and a traverse out CPR Ridge to start the day off.

                                                                       Steve getting on it

Desi dropping down to Sluiceway off CPR Ridge

                                                               Tommy Frey, smooth as ever

Some impressive terrain and scenery over looking the town of Golden. Lot's of steep sections off CPR as we slid down to the Sluiceway runout en-route to Terminator to check out  T1, a large face that requires a short hike. According to Fisk this area seems to always  hold the goods.
As Steve suspected there were still lots of pow stashes up T1, Great call as the hike is fairly short and well worth the effort. The temps were still cold and the snow was light as we worked some nice pitches.

                                                                   Fisk getting the Money Shot

T1 proving to be well worth it

It's amazing everywhere you look theres a cool feature and plenty of sweet backdrops for images.

                                                                  Spectacular Views over the Valley

We took our time getting down T1 as we could see a wave of broken clouds coming our way. Once the clouds moved in we put away the camera and Steve took us on a little tour of some high speed groomers for a little carving action.

Fisk knows how to Lay em' over!

                                                         Frey Blasting throughout the Smokescreen

With over 4100 feet of vert and lot's of steep groomers, it's pretty easy to get some serious leg burn! Just as quick as the sun went away it came back out and we were back at it.

Know that the sun is back out, Desi is all smiles!

Fisk always coming in with some speed

By 3:30 pm we were smoked and ready for a cold one on the deck at the Double Black Cafe. Something special about Apres and quaffing drafts on a sun deck.  Not a bad way to wrap up a day at the Horse! You can bet we'll be back!
