Why is Crystal Mountain (Washington) closing between April 18th and Memorial Day?

Crystal Mountain has announced they will be closed April 18th and reopen Memorial Day weekend, and stay open on weekends for as long as conditions last.

Does anyone know why they are doing this?

No idea.

Seems most unfortunate me. I'd be there a bunch if they stayed open.

My best guess is it has something to do with elk migration. But only guessing there.

My guess is that they won't make any money running the lifts after the 18th (this is why so many areas close in April with lots of snow--skiers visits really drop off in spring). But they open the gondola Memorial Day weekend for the sightseeing season, so why not run Green Valley too and make a little more money, and get the attention that goes with having a season that lasts in to summer. (That's all that will be running, it's not like they are opening the whole mountain for skiing).

But @markojp probably knows the real reason.
