Salomom Xmax 120 vs, Xwave 8.0

I currently have a pair of Salomon Xwave 8.0 that are ~ 8 years old and I only get out 8-10 days per year.  I consider myself an advanced, though certainly not expert, skier and I ski half my season in the northeast and usually get 4 days out west.  They still seem to be in decent shape and although they are difficult to put on, they are comfortable enough within a few minutes of flexing.

I would not think they need replacing, but after hearing about the importance of boots I am thinking about upgrading.  I will probably be buying used as I don't want to shell out $500 with such limited usage.  I see some Xmax 120s for sale and was wondering if it would be worth it to pick them up or if the difference would be negligible.  They are certainly in better shape than my current boots.

I have never been fitted for boots as the last pair seemed to fit pretty well, although I do have to crank them down tight to keep my heal from floating.

What do you think??

I think you should read this,

odds are you boots are just too big for you.   check the shell fit.    if that is OK, then they are too wide for you.   or the liners are packed out.

so yes,  I would look for another set of boots, but NO idea if the xmax120 will work

Saving money buying on the internet will not save you money.

Thanks guys.

mntlion.  I will check the shell fit and see how that is.  I see the related article on putting the liner back in the boot, which i was afraid would be difficult but looks doable.  If the fit is right I may buy these lightly used boots since they are the same size as mine and they are probably a much better boot, but not sure.  Is the Xmax 120 a good boot?

Lou, for $150 I could possibly have a near new set of boots that would cost me ~ $400 new.  Big difference but not sure if it's worth the risk.

Well I got a pair of unused older model Head RS100 on here dirt cheap and went to the highly recommended Heino's here in NJ for a fitting last week.  I'll be picking them up this week and will then have to wait to try them out.  I got a great feeling of confidence working with Greg and can't wait to see the difference between off the rack boots and properly fitted boots.
